Summer is in full swing, and I don’t have to tell you that wearing sunscreen, whether you’re spending the day at the beach or just taking a stroll, is an absolute must. But even if you protect your skin, you may still find yourself feeling dehydrated. What you may not know, is our skin needs attention after any sun exposure, even if you don’t get burned! 


Sun damage is a big factor in aging and skin that has been permanently damaged. We can easily accelerate our aging process by basking in the sun’s rays. Even low levels of UV light can affect the skin, causing skin-barrier disruption  in addition to damage to collagen and skin cells’ DNA. Here are my after sun care tips to help soothe and quench your sun-soaked body so you can have beautiful bronzed skin, prolong the life of your tan, and reduce the signs of aging.




1. TAKE A SHOWER

After extensive sunbathing, shower when you get home. Salt water and chlorine droplets on the skin can magnify the sun’s rays and dehydrate it even more. A shower will help to cool the skin down almost instantly-just make sure the water isn’t too hot.

Pat the skin dry with a towel to avoid irritation. And aging aside, the thought of coming home from a long day at the beach, taking a shower, and putting on something soothing that prolongs the life of your bronze glow sounds quite nice indeed. 




2. MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE

It may seem obvious that you should moisturize, but not all moisturizers are created equal or are best for after sun care. Invest in an after-sun lotion to soothe and calm your skin.
